The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival will start next in 2017 between 4th February and will end on 12th February after closing the 2016 edition on 17th February.

The bright, warm and festive spirit of the city is a magnet for art lovers from across the world.The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is a nine days long festival – an annual Festival which takes place in the historic Kala Ghoda Art District of South Mumbai, India and attracts artists, actors, musicians, journalists, readers, designers and food connoisseurs.
This Year there is a New Attraction.Recently this Month Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled the 25 Foot Statue of a Black Horse.Kala Ghoda Association’s (KGA), which recreated the monument, has named the horse the ‘Spirit of Kala Ghoda.’It is a Bronze sculpture which is crafted by Shreehari Bhosle, designed by architect Alfaz Miller and Arzan Khambatta sculpted it.The statue is placed between landmarks like the Jehangir Art Gallery, the National Gallery of Modern Art and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya.Kala Ghoda Association will maintain the Statue for three years, and after that, it will be handed up to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Organized by the Kala Ghoda Association, a Non-profit organization, this Art Festival needs no introduction. It is Open to all and Free of Charge.The Kala Ghoda district can be traced through the Regal Circle at the Southern end of the Mumbai University when you look at the northern end and through the Oval Maidan into the west together with Lion Gate to the east.
In 2016, the Festival drew 5,00,000 individuals throughout the city. Funds raised helped in restoration and upkeep associated with the Kala Ghoda area and several heritage structures in the vicinity. Over 600 events were held across 12 days.
Several heritage buildings and institutions in the region have benefited out of this. There are twelve parts of the festival including visual arts, cinema, dance, theater, music, literature, urban design, architecture, workshops, food, street section, heritage walks and a section for kids.
Corporate houses entirely sponsor the festival. The prosperity of the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival has, arguably, encouraged the setting up of some other arts and cultural festivals at that time of the year, when the weather in Mumbai is cold.Included in these are the Mumbai Festival, the Celebrate Bandra Festival, and the Kitab Festival.

With a kaleidoscope of music, dance, theater, literature, food, street stalls, cinema, workshops, visual arts, urban design and architecture, and heritage walks into the store; the Festival continues to present a melange of arts for the city to relish. From heated literary and social conversations to workshops and guide launches, from musical delights to dancing shows, from mesmerizing art that is visual handmade crafts; the big event is a big draw for all art connoisseurs.
Venues are the auditorium in the National Gallery of Modern Art, the Garden at the David Sassoon Library, the Lawns and Auditoriums in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya.The Other Locations are Museum, Mumbai, the Cross Maidan, the Horniman Circle Garden, the M C Ghia Hall, the Cafeteria at Westside, the Tata store at Army and Navy Building and also the entire street section of Kaikashru Dubash Marg and its particular parking lot, popularly called Rampart Row.
Rampart Row is closed off to vehicular traffic through the duration of the festival, with the entire area becoming a street fair, with food stalls, artisans selling their creations, artists who sketch instant portraits, street art installations and so on. In the last few years, the Festival has expanded beyond the Kala Ghoda Crescent, and it is also held in Cross Maidan and Horniman Circle.
